Which demolition hammer do I need?

  • Light jobs: removing tile, mortar and thin screeds, or chiseling small areas, calls for an electric SDS-max hammer.
  • Slabs and footings: a 60 lb class breaker, electric or pneumatic, breaks 4 to 8 in of concrete and is easier to manage than the 90 lb class.
  • Thick pavement and heavy concrete: use a 90 lb pneumatic breaker. It is the heaviest we rent and needs a lot of air.
  • Air or electric: pneumatic breakers need a compressor sized for the tool; see how many CFM you need and our air compressors. Electric hammers need only a generator or an outlet that can supply the amps.
  • Bits: chisels, points and spades suit different jobs. Tell us the material and we will include the right bit.

Not sure which one to rent? Tell us the work height, the access (door width, elevator, stairs) and the surface, and we will match a machine. Call 718-344-1474 or request a quote.

Demolition safety and silica dust

Breaking concrete releases silica dust. Use water or dust control, a respirator, eye and hearing protection and gloves. See the OSHA guidance on silica dust. Check for rebar, utilities and conduit before you break.

Demolition hammer rental FAQs

What size breaker do I need to break a concrete slab?

A 60 lb class breaker handles most residential and sidewalk slabs. Thicker or reinforced concrete may need the 90 lb. Tell us the thickness and we will recommend.

Do I need a compressor?

Only for the pneumatic breakers. The electric Bosch tools plug in, but check the amps.

What is the difference between a rotary hammer and a demolition hammer?

A rotary hammer drills holes and also chisels lightly. A demolition hammer only chisels and is built for breaking material.

Do you deliver?

Yes, to all five NYC boroughs.
