Which scissor lift do I need?
Start with the work height, then check how the lift gets to the work.
- Height: subtract about 6 ft from the height you need to reach. A 12 ft ceiling job is comfortable on a 19 ft lift; a 26 ft ceiling needs a 26 to 32 ft lift.
- Doorways: the 19 ft lift and the single man lift are about 30 in wide and fit through a standard 32 in door. The 32 ft narrow model is 32 in wide. A 40 ft lift is 47 in wide and needs a double door or an outside entrance.
- Surface: electric lifts are for firm, level floors and slabs. For dirt, gravel, slopes or a construction site, rent a rough terrain model with outriggers and foam-filled tires.
- Weight and elevators: the 26 ft lift weighs about 4,700 lb and the 53 ft rough terrain lift about 16,600 lb. Check the freight elevator rating or floor load before you book, and ask us if you are unsure.
Not sure which one to rent? Tell us the work height, the access (door width, elevator, stairs) and the surface, and we will match a machine. Call 718-344-1474 or request a quote.
Renting a scissor lift in NYC
We rent by the day, week or month and deliver to Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. Delivery and pickup are scheduled around your site access, including early morning drop-offs and tight street parking. Our team explains the controls, outriggers and safe operation when the lift is delivered or picked up. Operators must be trained for the specific type of lift; see OSHA's guidance on aerial lifts.
Scissor lift rental FAQs
Will a 19 ft scissor lift fit through a doorway?
The Genie GS-1930 is 30 in wide, so it fits through a standard 32 in door. Measure the clear opening of the narrowest door on the route, including frames and hardware.
What is the difference between platform height and working height?
Platform height is the height of the platform floor. Working height is the highest point a person can reach standing on it, about 6 ft more. Pick the lift by working height.
Can I use a scissor lift outdoors?
Electric scissor lifts work outdoors on firm, level ground in calm weather. For uneven ground, slopes or soft soil, use a rough terrain model such as the 43 ft JLG 4394RT or the 53 ft Genie GS-5390 RT.
Do I need training to operate a scissor lift?
Yes. OSHA requires operators to be trained and authorized for the equipment they use. We walk you through the controls, but your employer or site is responsible for formal operator training.
Can I rent for one day?
Yes. We offer daily, weekly and monthly rentals. Call 718-344-1474 for availability on the day you need it.
Do you deliver the lift to the site?
Yes, to all five NYC boroughs. You can also pick it up at 181 2nd Ave, Brooklyn if it fits your truck or trailer.
