Which one do I need?
- Under 6 ft (basement ceilings, headers, low decks): Post Shore #0.
- About 6 to 10 ft (most house ceilings): Post Shore #1 or #2.
- About 9 to 13 ft (taller rooms, garages, stores): Post Shore #3.
- About 11 to 16 ft (double-height rooms, warehouses, tall formwork): Post Shore #4.
- Heavy loads: use the shortest shore that reaches your height. Shorter shores hold more.

Rental FAQs
What is a post shore?
An adjustable steel post, also called a ceiling jack, that holds a ceiling, beam or slab up temporarily during construction or repairs. You set the height with the pin, then fine-tune it with the screw.
How much weight can a post shore hold?
It depends on the height. A Post Shore #0 holds 12,000 lb at 4 ft, while a Post Shore #4 holds 2,400 lb at 15 ft. The taller the shore is set, the less it holds. Every product page has a drawing with the load at each height.
What is the difference between Post Shore #1 and #2?
They overlap. #1 adjusts from 5 ft 9 in to 10 ft 3 in, and #2 from 6 ft 6 in to 11 ft. Both hold the same load at the same height, so pick the one whose range fits your ceiling best.
Which post shore do I need for a 12 ft ceiling?
A Post Shore #3 (8 ft 6 in to 13 ft) or #4 (10 ft 6 in to 16 ft). Both hold 4,000 lb at 12 ft.
Are the loads already reduced for safety?
Yes. The numbers are allowable working loads with a 2.5 to 1 safety factor. For structural work, have a qualified person plan the shoring.
Do you deliver?
Yes, to all five NYC boroughs.
