Which scaffolding do I need?

  • Interior work (painting, ceilings, drywall): a baker's scaffold is 29 in wide, so it fits through standard doors and rolls on casters. Add the outrigger set and guardrail set when you stack two sections or work 10 ft or higher.
  • Exterior and tall work: frame scaffolding with planks, guard rails and outriggers, set on leveling jacks or base plates.
  • Walking under or through: use walk-through frames.
  • Debris and falling objects: add debris netting and toeboards, and plan for pedestrian protection where needed.
  • Count the parts: tell us the height, length and width and we will list the frames, planks, rails and braces.

Not sure which one to rent? Tell us the work height, the access (door width, elevator, stairs) and the surface, and we will match a machine. Call 718-344-1474 or request a quote.

Scaffold safety

OSHA requires scaffolds to be erected, moved and taken down under the supervision of a competent person, with proper planking, guardrails and access. See OSHA's scaffolding guidance. NYC also has its own rules for scaffolds, sheds and permits, so check with your site safety manager.

Scaffolding rental FAQs

What is the difference between frame scaffolding and a baker's scaffold?

Frame scaffolding is built in tiers and used for exterior and tall work. A baker's scaffold is a single rolling platform used indoors.

Do I need guardrails on a baker scaffold?

OSHA requires guardrails once the platform is 10 ft or more above the floor, and you need them whenever you stack a second baker section. Many contractors use them on every baker. Our guardrail set fits the standard 6 ft x 29 in baker and has gates for climbing on and off.

When do I need outriggers on a baker scaffold?

A baker is only 29 in wide, and OSHA limits a scaffold to four times its narrowest base unless it is tied in. Outriggers widen the base, so you need them when you stack two sections and should use them on any tall or rolling setup. Install them on both sides before you move the scaffold.

Do I need a competent person to set it up?

Yes. OSHA requires a competent person to supervise erecting, moving and dismantling scaffolds.

What planks are required?

Scaffold platforms use scaffold-grade planks such as our OSHA 2 x 10 planks.

Can I rent single parts?

Yes. We rent individual frames, planks, rails, casters, jacks and clamps. Tell us what you need.

Do you deliver scaffolding?

Yes, to all five NYC boroughs.
